A Noongar security company has been recognised for its trailblazing Aboriginal employment and engagement programs.

EON Protection won three major gongs at the highly-coveted 2024 Australian Security Industry Association Limited Awards in Melbourne over the weekend.

The 100 per cent Aboriginal-owned company combines a senior skillset in military and armed forces-trained leadership, to provide specialist protective services to organisations and assets across Western Australia.

EON won an Australian Security Industry award for excellence in diversity and inclusion, a security performance award for outstanding security team, and a security partnership honour for its work with Wilson Security and Rio Tinto.

EON Protection founder Gerry Matera said the honours were a culmination of eight years of strategic work, developing a shared vision to change the trajectory of Aboriginal lives, via a formidable team of security experts.

"EON was introduced to address disproportionate levels of unemployment, incarceration, generational abuse and systemic racism resulting from a complex history of discrimination," he said.

"We wanted to transform lives through meaningful employment, cultural leadership and community engagement.

"Today the company is not only achieving its social impact goals, but also competing head-to-head with some of the nation's most respected and effective organisations."

He said the recognition put a stake in the ground in demonstrating the power of industry to address complex security challenges.

"Being recognised in this space sends a strong signal to industry, and is only the beginning of what we plan to achieve over the next few years."

Amongst the recognition is EON's pioneering Aboriginal community liaison program, which mobilises Indigenous representatives to engage with Aboriginal youth in volatile situations, helping to create cultural connections and use life experiences to achieve security outcomes, without intimidation or racial disparity.

EON chief executive officer Danny Hines said the Noongar company's combination of cultural empowerment and security expertise was unique in the sector.

"Many of EON's leaders have held positions in the armed forces, with frontline and strategic experience from engagements in high-risk environments," he said.

"We understand how to create and maintain a positive and effective company culture, and this enables our people to be the best they can be."
