In the rhythms of the Northern Territory, where ochre landscapes stretch beneath ancient skies, Country speaks through story, culture, and connection. The Aboriginal Tourism Product Distribution Grant Program is now open; further supporting First Nations-led enterprises to amplify that voice and cement their place at the heart of the NT's tourism identity.
The non-competitive grant program aligns with the Northern Territory Aboriginal Tourism Strategy 2020–2030, whose vision is to inspire visitors to connect with one of the world's oldest cultures through immersive experiences that sustain the Aboriginal tourism sector for future generations.
Tourism NT is providing a $50,000 funding pool to assist NT Aboriginal majority-owned businesses and organisations in promoting and distributing their tourism products. The funding can support the implementation of online booking systems and provide access to expert advice on distribution, pricing structures, and rate sheets.
Eligible applicants can receive between $2,000 and $5,000, with funds released in two stages; upon the receipt of a signed funding agreement and initial invoice, and on acquittal following project completion. Projects must be completed by 15 May 2026.
Applications opened on Tuesday and will close on Thursday 30 April 2026, or earlier if the program is fully subscribed. Submissions will be assessed in the order they are received.
The Northern Territory is the heartbeat of culture in Australia; a place where Country, kinship, and culture remain powerfully connected and deeply visible. It is here that visitors can experience authentic Aboriginal knowledge, language, and lore firsthand. But for this richness to thrive and translate into opportunity, we must place greater focus and investment in Aboriginal-led tourism; not just as a cultural offering, but as a powerful economic driver.
By backing Aboriginal businesses in the tourism sector, we're not only preserving ancient traditions; we're also creating jobs, income, and enterprise pathways that increase First Nations economic participation and self-determination.
The program is part of a broader commitment by Tourism NT and the federal government to embed cultural strength into the heart of the Territory's tourism economy. With over $2.3 million already distributed across earlier programs, these investments reflect a long-term vision; one rooted in truth-telling, equity, and cultural sustainability.
Today, Aboriginal tourism contributes over $383 million annually to the NT economy; but the value goes far beyond the numbers. It's in the yarns shared around campfires, the knowledge passed through generations, and the pride in welcoming visitors to Country.
