National Australia Bank (NAB) has announced grants and additional financial relief for customers impacted by the bushfires across Victoria, including First Nations communities.
The fires took hold last week amid catastrophic weather conditions, including temperatures of 40°C and winds of up to 50km/h. Authorities say more than 500 structures have been destroyed and more than 1,000 farming properties affected.
While multiple fires continue to burn across the state, all emergency warnings had been downgraded to Watch and Act by Tuesday morning.
NAB said a range of support measures — including grants, loan repayment deferrals and other relief options — are available to assist customers affected by the fires.
NAB's Head of First Nations Affairs, Sam Webster, said timely and practical support is critical during disasters.
"For First Nations peoples, the impacts of disasters can be felt deeply and often long after the immediate event has passed," Ms Webster said.
"NAB is committed to standing alongside First Nations customers and their communities, helping them through urgent needs and to begin recovery in the aftermath of a natural disaster."
NAB Executive Belinda Mamet said the bank's $1,000 disaster relief grant is intended to help cover immediate costs such as accommodation, clothing and food.
"We've also put in place a range of measures, including loan repayment deferrals and fee waivers, to ease financial pressure during this incredibly difficult time," Ms Mamet said.
On Monday, the Commonwealth and Victorian governments announced a jointly funded $19.5 million support package.
The funding includes $10 million for livestock fodder, $5 million for a recovery support program, $2 million for a recovery hotline, $1.5 million for emergency accommodation, and $1 million for mental health support.
