Sea Darwin Sea Tiwi has proudly welcomed Cassie Black (Puruntatameri) as its Tourism Ambassador, a proud Tiwi woman, international model and cultural mentor who is helping bring Tiwi stories to the world in a way that is authentic, creative and deeply connected to Country.

"Stepping into the role of Tourism Ambassador for Sea Darwin Sea Tiwi is an incredible honour," she said.

"As a proud Tiwi woman, it means having the opportunity to represent my culture, my community, and the beauty of our islands through my own lived experience. It's more than just a role, it's a chance to bridge two worlds, to share our stories, language, and connection to sea Country with visitors in a genuine and respectful way. I want people to experience Tiwi culture not just as tourists, but as guests being welcomed into our home."

Sea Darwin Sea Tiwi is a 100 per cent Tiwi-owned, eco certified, not for profit enterprise under Tiwi Enterprises. In 2023, Tiwi Enterprises acquired the respected tourism operator Sea Darwin, transforming it into a Tiwi-led business that connects culture and economy through marine based tourism. What was once a Darwin based company is now a vessel for Tiwi self-determination, where every tour supports local employment, training and community development.

Stepping into the role of Tourism Ambassador for Sea Darwin Sea Tiwi is an incredible honour," said Cassie Black.

Scott Simpson, CEO of Sea Tiwi, said this is tourism done differently.

"Our approach is culture led, not commercial led. Every story and experience is guided by Tiwi people, ensuring visitors connect with the real Tiwi Islands. Authenticity and respect are what make our tours world class," he said.

Sea Darwin's well-known experiences, from the Bombing of Darwin cruise to turtle watching and sunset adventures, now carry the heartbeat of Tiwi culture. Visitors experience saltwater Country through Tiwi eyes, seeing, hearing and feeling the land, the people and the stories that define this place.

Mr Simpson said the goal is long-term opportunity and pride.

"We're investing in our people. From skippers to cultural guides, Tiwi staff are trained to lead with confidence and professionalism while staying grounded in heritage. That's where true excellence comes from, when culture and capability grow together," he said.

For Ms Black (Puruntatameri), that balance between culture and confidence is what makes this moment special.

"My platform gives me the chance to share Tiwi culture in creative and authentic ways," she said.

"Through fashion, storytelling, and community engagement, I aim to highlight the beauty, strength, and identity of our people. Every opportunity, whether on the runway or on the boat, becomes a space to showcase Tiwi art, language and connection to Country."

Cassie's appointment represents a strong future for Tiwi youth, especially those looking to walk in both worlds.

"I hope young mob see that there's strength in sharing who we are with the world," she said.

"Working in tourism and cultural spaces has shown me that people truly want to learn from us, our history, our language, our connection to Country. I want them to know that leadership doesn't always mean standing in front; sometimes it's about representing your culture with pride wherever you go. If I can do it, so can they."

Mr Simpson said Ms Black (Puruntatameri) embodies everything for which Sea Tiwi stands.

"Cassie brings a strength and authenticity that connects people instantly. She reminds us all that culture isn't something separate from success. It's the foundation of it," he said.

Through her role, Ms Black (Puruntatameri) will help expand the reach of Tiwi tourism, promoting Tiwi storytelling across national and international audiences. Her work will strengthen the connection between Sea Darwin and the Tiwi Islands, building genuine partnerships that showcase the depth of Tiwi knowledge and pride.

The story of Sea Darwin Sea Tiwi reflects a broader movement unfolding across the Northern Territory. It is about Indigenous businesses leading with purpose and showing that collaboration can achieve something extraordinary.

As Indigenous Business Month celebrates the theme Strength in Collaboration, Sea Darwin Sea Tiwi stands as a living example of what that looks like. It brings together culture, community and enterprise to create real pathways for prosperity and pride.

"When culture drives the vision and our people lead, the result is not just great tourism," Mr Simpson said. "It is real empowerment."
