In a landmark moment for Indigenous education and community-led philanthropy, Elephant in the Room Consulting has become one of the first Indigenous-owned businesses in Australia to establish an endowed scholarship with Yalari.

The new Jenni Walke Endowment Scholarship will help create permanent, long-term support for Indigenous students across Australia, marking a major step in Indigenous-to-Indigenous philanthropy.

Elephant in the Room Consulting (EITRC) is a full-service, Indigenous-owned and led consultancy guided by the motto: Wisdom from Country, Strategy for Business.

Yalari is a national not-for-profit organisation which for over 20 years has provided full boarding school scholarships for Indigenous children from regional and remote communities across Australia, ensuring students have access not only to education, but to the wellbeing, cultural, and academic support they need to thrive.

Strengthening EITRC's ongoing commitment to Yalari, the company is also in its fourth year of a six-year partnership, contributing $20,000 annually; donating five per cent of its revenue; making voluntary contributions; and providing in-kind cultural capability support.

EITRC Founder and Managing Director Jenni Walke, a proud Bundjalung woman, says the endowment reflects the kind of impact she hopes all Indigenous-owned businesses strive for.

"This is the definition of legacy. Our success as a business means nothing unless it creates real, lasting pathways for our people. To establish a scholarship that will continue supporting young people long after we're gone, is the truest measure of impact," Ms Walke said.

"Awards and recognition are meaningful, but they aren't the true measure of our success - the work we do with Yalari is. When a young person walks into a boarding school with the support they deserve and a future they can see, that is where real change starts."

Yalari was founded in 2005 by Indigenous leader Waverley Stanley AM and his wife Llew Mullins and provides full boarding school scholarships to Indigenous children from regional and remote communities.

Since its inception, the organisation has created educational opportunities for more than 750 Indigenous children from over 180 communities across Australia, reinforcing its belief that education drives generational change.

Yalari Founder Waverley Stanley AM says the EITRC endowment is one of the most significant commitments the organisation has received.

"For an Indigenous-owned business to create a scholarship that will support our students for generations, that is a turning point. It shows the strength of Indigenous leadership and the power of investing in our own communities," he said.

Through this step, EITRC says it aims not only to support Yalari, but also to build "a legacy that will shape futures, strengthen community, and create opportunity for decades to come".
