A Kimberley Indigenous business and community leader has welcomed the elevation of MP Divina D'Anna to the key role of Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier.
Ms D'Anna, a Yawuru, Nimanburr, and Bardi woman raised in Broome, was re-elected in the far north Western Australian electorate of the Kimberley earlier this month with over 61 per cent of the two-party preferred vote.
Subsequent to the re-election of Roger Cook's Labor government, Ms D'Anna look on the role of Parliamentary Secretary to Mr Cook, which involves providing direct advice and support to the Premier.
Ms D'Anna is the first Aboriginal woman to serve as a Parliamentary Secretary in WA history.
Leedal Group chairman Patrick Green celebrated the promotion, and also welcomed the new Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, Don Punch.
"Congratulations to Divina D'Anna on her appointment as Parliamentary Secretary to Premier Roger Cook, and to Don Punch, who has been named Western Australia's new Minister for Aboriginal Affairs in the Cook government's cabinet reshuffle," he said.
"We're looking forward to the support they'll give to Aboriginal people in business, and those eager to enter the business world.
"Divina is, of course, a true grassroots Kimberley leader—she understands our challenges, our hopes, and our aspirations. There is always a table waiting for both of you at Fitzroy River Lodge when you're in town."
Leedal Group owns and operates a number of important businesses in Fitzroy Crossing and is a major employer of Aboriginal people.
