Indigenous business visionaries and some of the leading figures in the resources sector are among an impressive cohort of presenters at next month's 2024 AEMEE Conference.
The 17th iteration of the annual event, set to be held in Western Australia's port town of Fremantle, has the theme 'From Sparks to Flames: Indigenous Business Fuelling the Future'.
The theme encapsulates the diversity and growth of Indigenous businesses in the resources and energy sector and a specific focus on sustainability, with a diverse line-up of speakers covering a range of issues and topics currently relevant to the industry.
Presenters include leading authorities on First Nations clean energy opportunities as well as representatives from Australia's biggest resources players, including Chevron and Rio Tinto.
Presentations include Fuelling Tomorrow - Project Net Zero, discussing insights and case studies as industries advance their net zero agenda for a sustainable future.
Mine Closure - Opportunities in Restoration of Country, which would delve into how Indigenous businesses can provide solutions for the industry's mine closure challenges.
Taking Control - Accessing Capital, and Managing Risk, a special session in response to a call to action from last year's conference, where attendees discussed how Indigenous businesses could move beyond subcontracting and scaling through partnership and collaboration, to a position of ownership and operational responsibility of large-scale projects, exploring the age old question of how to access capital for start-up and growth.
AEMEE chairperson Derek Flucker said it would be exciting to hear the stories of so many Indigenous businesses during the two-day conference at the Esplanade Hotel.
"We are excited to showcase stories from those in the sector, think about our greater purpose, and capture those diverse stories to where we are now," he said.
Sector leaders, stakeholders and Indigenous businesses would discuss how they grapple with the challenges and opportunities they collectively face.
Mr Flucker said it was AEMEE's vision to gain true market share for Indigenous businesses, and said Australia's transition to net zero was an exciting opportunity to realise that, with First Nations organisations in prime position to take leadership roles in the renewables race and cement a legacy for future generations.
"The conference will explore strategies in how the sector accelerates the journey to net-zero, reducing the carbon footprint for our future generations," he said.
The Aboriginal Enterprises in Mining, Energy and Exploration (AEMEE) was established in 2005 with the vision of gaining true market share for Indigenous businesses across the resources sectors.
The 2024 AEMEE Conference on October 2 and 3 is packed with thought-provoking and inspiring sessions covering a wide array of industry topics.
A robust turnout is expected, as attendees hear from significant representatives and Indigenous leaders across business, government, corporate and industry across several sectors.
Attendees have abundant networking opportunities and hear from a stellar lineup-of speakers and entertainers.
The event culminates with a gala dinner and presentation of the 2024 AEMEE National Resource Sector Awards.
