Aboriginal Investment NT has a new chief executive officer whose appointment brings a wealth of experience to the critical business role for the Territory.
A descendant of the Larrakia and Wulna people, Nigel Browne was appointed for a five-year term, with Indigenous Australians minister Malarndirri McCarthy saying his wealth of experience - as a current board director of Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation and most recently CEO of Larrakia Development Corporation for 12 years - was invaluable.
"Aboriginal Investment NT has a significant agenda to empower Aboriginal Territorians to strategically invest and grow wealth for future generations," she said.
"I have every confidence Mr Browne's experience and leadership will support Aboriginal Investment NT to deliver economic, social and cultural outcomes for the Northern Territory ... and look forward to working with him in his new role."
Mr Browne's experience includes board and committee positions across various government and industry organisations, while earlier professional roles included Crown Prosecutor at the NT Director of Public Prosecutions, and solicitor at the NT Department of Justice.
In 2011, Mr Browne was named national Indigenous legal professional of the year for his advocacy, representation and contribution to Larrakia people.
His leadership would enhance Aboriginal Investment NT's unique position as an investor and advocate for Aboriginal communities across the Territory, enhancing economic prosperity and collective wealth opportunities for future generations.
Senator McCarthy said the CEO appointment followed a competitive recruitment process by the board of Aboriginal Investment NT, which is charged to grow the resources and power of Indigenous people living in the Territory, through innovative approaches to grants and investment.
"Aboriginal Investment NT has a significant agenda to empower Aboriginal Territorians to strategically invest and grow wealth for future generations," the minister said.
"I warmly welcome and congratulate Mr Browne ... and would also like to thank former CEO Elly Patira for her leadership of Aboriginal Investment NT, including a new strategic investment plan that set out a five-year roadmap."
