Western Australia's largest Indigenous-owned contractor, Warrikal, has been awarded a "significant maintenance package" by Hancock Iron Ore, marking a major step forward in strengthening its relationship with the mining company.
Under the new three-year agreement, Warrikal will provide maintenance services in support of Roy Hill's iron ore operations in the Pilbara region of WA, including work on the site's wet processing plant.
The Roy Hill plant, in the Chichester Range, is one of Australia's largest mining projects, with an annual production capacity of up to 55 million tonnes of iron ore.
Established in 2016, Warrikal employs approximately 1,600 personnel and is recognised as the largest Indigenous-owned contractor in Western Australia.
The company specialises in mechanical shutdowns and maintenance services across the resources sector.
While Warrikal has previously collaborated with Hancock Iron Ore on minor scopes and shutdown support earlier this year, this newly secured long-term agreement represented a major advancement in their commercial relationship.
The contract was described by the company as a key milestone that strengthens Warrikal's standing as a preferred contractor within the Pilbara region.
Warrikal's existing client portfolio includes major industry players such as Fortescue Metals Group — its largest client — as well as BHP and Rio Tinto.
Warrikal chief executive officer David Williamson emphasised the importance of the new agreement, saying the contract was a "strong endorsement" of the company's performance.
"To be awarded a three-year contract with Hancock so soon after our first engagement is a strong endorsement of our people and our performance," he said.
Mr Williamson said the agreement provided Warrikal a great opportunity to further its partnership with Hancock.
"It also shows the value that can be created through collaboration, consistent delivery, and trusted relationships," he said.
"While we are proud to now extend our relationship with Hancock Iron Ore, we also acknowledge the long-standing partnerships we hold with other tier-one clients across Western Australia.
"We do not take these relationships for granted."
