Remote communities, including First Nations communities, are set to benefit from free tax assistance and education under the Federal Government's National Tax Clinic program.

Administered by the Australian Taxation Office, the program — which has received extra funding to cater for residents in some of Australia's most remote communities — supports outreach services delivered by universities and TAFEs.

It delivers practical taxation and superannuation support which help people navigate their obligations and entitlements.

Minister for Indigenous Australians, Senator Malarndirri McCarthy, said the program will assist Indigenous communities meet their tax requirements.

"From Fitzroy Crossing to Wujal Wujal, from the APY Lands to the Tiwi Islands, this investment by the Albanese Government means more remote First Nations communities can access free tax advice," Senator McCarthy said.

"Assistance is available in person and online and is tailored to the needs of communities."

The clinics also provide valuable opportunities for students undertaking tax‑related courses at participating universities and TAFEs.

In total six educational institutions have been awarded grants, with $250,000 allocated to First Nations and remote communities.

Assistant Treasurer and Minister for Financial Services, Daniel Mulino, said the Tax Clinic program "makes a real difference to the lives of those involved".

"It can ease stress and anxiety by helping people gain greater financial stability and financial literacy," Mr Mulino said.

"Students also benefit by gaining insights into the need for empathy with clients and making a genuine impact through their work."
