Yued Aboriginal Corporation reaches heritage protection agreement with Chalice Mining

Giovanni Torre -

Yued Aboriginal Corporation have executed a Yued Heritage Protection Agreement with minerals explorer Chalice Mining Ltd for the latest of the company's tenements on Yued Boodja.

Holding several exploration tenements across the Yued Agreement Area, Chalice has expressed a commitment to minimising adverse impacts on Yued cultural heritage.

YAC described the Yued Heritage Protection Agreement (YHPA) as a "pragmatic" commercial agreement that establishes the processes by which consideration is given to activities planned by project proponents.

Under a YHPA, proponents submit their planned Activity Notice which is considered by YAC's Cultural Advice Committee, which then provides advice to YAC's management team on how to best ensure that cultural heritage is identified and protected.

Yued Aboriginal Corporation chief executive Rewi Lyall said on Tuesday that more and more explorers "appreciate that understanding the cultural landscape is critical to their aspirations".

"We know that artefacts can even be found in country that has been ploughed over many times. Companies like Chalice are demonstrating they're interested in working with Yued to obtain certainty and cultural safety for their activities," he said.

Chalice Mining managing director and chief executive Alex Dorsch said the company is "pleased to have signed this Heritage Protection Agreement covering planned exploration activities on some of our tenements".

"I would like to thank the Yued Aboriginal Corporation for their collaborative and pragmatic approach," he said.

"Chalice is committed to protecting the cultural heritage values of the lands where we are exploring, and this represents an important step towards strengthening our relationship with the Yued Community."
