Indigenous beauty brand Yaye has gained prominence for its clean beauty solutions with ethical roots, and its groundbreaking new Red Ochre product was formulated with upcycled Red Velvet oil, sourced from tomato seed waste.
The brand's latest innovation – inspired by Central Australis's sacred ochre pits - blended cultural wisdom with modern vegan science, with its lightweight, fast-absorbing formula free from synthetic fragrances and preservatives to aid hydration.l
Founded by Warumungu and Luritja woman Melissa Cole, Yaye (yah-yah) means 'Big Sister' in Arrernte.
"Red Ochre is not just a face and body oil but a powerful expression of Yaye's ethos to honour culture through skincare," Ms Cole said.
"Four years into my business journey, I'm grateful to have built a strong support team that allowed me to move quickly and ensure Yaye was among the first brands in Australia to showcase this groundbreaking upcycled ingredient.
"This breakthrough element brings together luxury, environmental responsibility, and cultural connection ... every decision has been made to merge luxury with purpose."
The zero-waste Red Ochre face and body oil was naturally rich in lycopene, phytosterols, and essential fatty acids, improving texture and tone, elasticity and radiance while protecting skin.
Yaye has tapped into the trend for skincare solutions with minimal processing and synthetic additives, a growing demand in the beauty industry.
Upcycled ingredients like 'Red Velvet' seed oil also point to a trend for waste-reduction in beauty product formulations.
The skincare solution was designed for those with mature skin (aged 45+), as Red Ochre contains radiance-boosting and hydrating ingredients.
Ms Cole said every Yaye product reflected its commitment to sustainability, scientific integrity and cultural storytelling and Red Ochre oil had been infused with ethically-sourced native and plant-based oils, with each ingredient chosen for its skin-loving benefits.
These included native sandalwood seed and macadamia oils, to soothe, soften and strengthen the skin barrier; hemp seed oil rich in Omegas 3 and 6 to calm and reduce inflammation; safflower and sunflower oils for moisturising without clogging pores; vitamin E to held shield skin from environmental damage and caprylic/capric triglycerides, which add a silky glide to aid application.
Being 100 per cent Aboriginal-owned, Australian made, vegan and cruelty-free, and using ethically sourced Ingredients, Ms Cole has created a brand beneficial to both skin and the planet.
Each Red Ochre oil bottle diverted a portion of the estimated 5,000 tonnes of discarded seeds produced annually.
