A focus on strengthening core business operations while continuing to deliver meaningful economic outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people sits at the heart of Indigenous Business Australia's recently released Corporate Plan.
The IBA Corporate Plan, encompassing 2026-27 to 2029-30, sets out IBA's commitment to making its products easier to use, improving systems and processes, and supporting continued growth in housing and business lending.
Several key operational and delivery priorities for 2026-27 feature in the plan, including:
- Capability building activities for more than 1,800 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
- More than 400 home loans, providing safe and stable housing to over 900 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
- Business finance for more than 180 First Nations businesses, supporting over 700 jobs.
- Financial returns of more than $5 million to First Nations co-investors.
IBA Chief Executive Officer, David Knights, said this financial year the corporate entity's focus is on strengthening the core parts of its business.
We are investing in the systems, processes and capabilities that will help us deliver services more efficiently and effectively while continuing to create opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people," Mr Knights said.
Following the introduction of new borrowing arrangements, IBA said it is looking at ways to diversify its funding and capital sources while continuing to build the internal capability needed to deliver its services efficiently and reliably.
Initiatives include simplifying IBA's product suite, maintaining strong home and business lending programs, streamlining its investment approach, and establishing a structured project finance function.
"We know the needs of First Nations customers and communities continue to evolve," Mr Knights said.
"This plan ensures we remain responsive, accessible and focused on delivering practical outcomes where they are needed most."
There is also a focus on improving how IBA engages with customers and promotes its products and services. IBA said is working closely with government, stakeholders and co-investment partners in the pursuit of sustainable economic development for First Nations communities.
"These priorities provide a practical roadmap for the year ahead," Mr Knights said.
"By strengthening our operations and maintaining a clear focus on impact, we will continue to deliver opportunities that support economic participation, financial prosperity and self-determination for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across Australia."
